**A Strong Partnership Fosters Creative Dialogue**
As a long-standing partner of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, LAUFEN is committed to fostering creative exchange within the design community. This dialogue was deepened through the "TIME JUMP" event at the LAUFEN space in Vienna.
One of the evening’s highlights was Italian designer Roberto Sironi’s presentation on his research project, “Colour Archaeology.” Commissioned by LAUFEN, Sironi spent three years studying the concept of color. From the vibrant blues of Mesopotamia and the celadon greens of China’s imperial period to the earthy reds of the Roman Empire, Sironi took the audience on a historical journey through the ceramic color palette, covering eight civilizations and several millennia.
Building on Sironi’s research, LAUFEN developed an elegant palette of twelve colors. These shades unite historical inspiration with contemporary design, ensuring their relevance for future projects. Sironi explained, “Exploring ceramic colors and their origins allows me to bridge the past and the present. These colors carry centuries of tradition—they’re much more than a trend; they are a living expression of our cultural heritage. Every piece I create is meant to convey not only aesthetic value but also knowledge and history. It’s about fostering a deeper connection through art.”
Patrick Lüth, Partner and Managing Director of Snøhetta Studio Innsbruck, shared in his keynote how sustainability and regenerative architecture shape Snøhetta’s work. Since its founding in 1989, this transdisciplinary firm has demonstrated how architecture and design can play a vital role in social and ecological sustainability.
Recently, Snøhetta completed Vertikal Nydalen, the first naturally ventilated, mixed-use high-rise in Oslo. The building follows a “Triple Zero Approach,” requiring no external energy for heating, cooling, or ventilation.
Lüth emphasized, “Climate change and its consequences are as significant in architecture as they are across society. Ambitious architecture must employ sustainable design strategies to make building part of the solution. This provides an opportunity to develop especially innovative and engaging projects.”
The presentations by Sironi and Lüth sparked numerous conversations and discussions among guests at the LAUFEN space in Vienna.
